My undergraduate degree was obtained at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. It was there that I had the privilege of studying with master teacher and painter, the late Jerry Newman. Jerry instilled in all his students a love for nature and a love of paint. In addition, the land that I purchased in East Texas put me right in the heart of nature and especially the beauty of Texas wildflowers in the spring. It was a natural fit for me.

The random patterns, textures, colors and shapes were abundant in the rural landscape around the Palestine area as well as the majestic pine trees. I began a life-long love affair for painting these images. As I progressed with the wildflower painting series, I felt compelled to express my gratitude to our former first lady, Mrs. Ladybird Johnson. I became very involved with the Ladybird Johnson National Wildflower Research Center located in Austin, Texas. I had several occasions to personally express my deep respect and appreciation to Mrs. Johnson.

I visit the subject of wildflowers from time to time now, and each time I do, I am re-inspired by the magnificence of the landscape of Texas, the power of the teachings of Jerry Newman, and the far-reaching environmental contributions of Mrs. Johnson. All these influences, feelings and emotion are expressed in each of these original oil paintings of Texas wildflowers.
